A dark work written for a large orchestra with piccolos, bass, brass, and timpani all doubled, it had its premiere in January 2012 in Linz, Austria, and was performed in February 2012 at Carnegie Hall on the composer's 75th birthday.
The work was written in 2010-2011, and consists of three movements lasting a total of approximately 50 minutes.
