Made Schumann famous in Germany by winning first prize out of 57 symphonic works at a competition held at the Leipziger Strasse concert hall in Berlin in 1888.
The work was written in 1887, and is in the key of B minor. It consists of four movements lasting a total of approximately 45 minutes.
